GUERNSEY'S two top cyclists both endured a frustrating day at the National Road Race Championships in Yorkshire last weekend.

Tobyn Horton, racing for Team Raleigh, and James McLaughlin of Sojasun Espoir, both retired before the conclusion of the 113.7-mile distance, having both been off the pace of the leaders.

But for Horton, it was not that disheartening, as his preparations had been almost exclusively reserved for shorter town criteriums in the build-up.

'My race was over after about two-and-a-half-hours. I did what I expected really and was pleased to feature near the front for a bit,' he said.
