SARK'S Carl Hester rewrote history yesterday as part of the first Great Britain team to win dressage gold in the Olympic Games.

A veteran of three previous Olympics, the 45-year-old had previously admitted that London 2012 was the first Games in which there was expectation on the British team and he was delighted that they were able to deliver.

'Today has been momentous, I am dying with pride,' Hester said. 'It is hard to put this experience into words.

'To win gold with such a phenomenal team is just amazing. And to do it in London is even better.'

Hester led the way with a brilliant Grand Prix Special test in Greenwich Park, earning the first score of the day in excess of 80 per cent with an outstanding 80.571%.
