THE local cycling season finished in style as a number of Guernsey riders produced impressive performances at the Duo Normand in France.

More than 20 Sarnian competitors travelled across to Normandy for the annual time trial event, where riders race in pairs and the clock stops when the slowest rider crosses the line.

Matt Osborn and Leon Ogier were the fastest Guernsey pairing by clocking 1hr 16min. 28sec. to finish 11th out of 19 teams in the category one class, a level below the elite race.

Indeed, it is the only cycling event in the world where professionals and amateurs alike are able to race on the same course over the same rules, with the elite race being won by Luke Durbridge and Svein Tuft.

The Guernsey Velo Club did have a class winner, namely the experienced duo of Aaron Bailey and Tony Bleasdale, who also broke the unclassified class record.
