A SPORTING Tobyn Horton made the most of a rare mountain bike outing as he helped Guernsey's men to dominate the senior inter-insular in Jersey last weekend.

It had been 10 years since the event was last held and although it was Jersey who scraped the overall victory for all categories, visiting Guernsey produced a stunning performance in the seniors race.

With each island's top four riders counting towards the standings, the Sarnians remarkably claimed the top six positions in the flagship race, with Jersey's best rider, Rhys Hidrio, crossing the line in seventh.

The visiting Guernsey charge was led by a joint-win between Horton and Rob Smart, the former slowing down in the final stages to cross the line together after Smart had suffered a puncture.

'Rob had waited for me earlier in the race when I had to sort my seat out, so it was a no-brainer to do the same,' Horton, pictured, said.

'That was always the plan to cross the line together. It is always a nice thing to do if you have the chance to do it.'
