BISHOP’S STORTFORD demonstrated exactly why they are sitting pretty on top of National Three London & South-East on Saturday at Footes Lane.

The league leaders showed understrength Guernsey no mercy as they ran in eight tries and kept their hosts at bay with comparative ease throughout a difficult afternoon for the Greens, who shipped in excess of 50 points for the second consecutive week.

Although once again fielding a patched-up side, which did not include talisman Nick Barton, who had been unable to train all week due to his ongoing shoulder injury, coach Jordan Reynolds was not interested in looking for excuses.

‘Where we are probably lacking is in our decision making,’ he said.

This was a very poor performance from Guernsey with both ball in hand and without.

There was too much reliance on the 10/12 channel in attack when there was space out wide. Having said that their back row covered the ground much more successfully than ours when the ball did go wide.

Defensively we were set-up too deep which allowed them to pass the ball out wide with ease taking advantage of their numerous overlaps.

Sam Stables at full back looks woeful, he has no awareness of the game and had the ball kicked over his head so many times I lost count. He needs to go away and watch some rugby and see where high quality full backs place themselves.

I hope the team can sort out these frailties otherwise it could be a long season and a trip back down to where they came from.
