MATT WATSON believes that Guernsey's hockey squad depth will help to ensure progression beyond the second round of this year's EH Trophy competition.

The Sarnian captain will miss his side's trip to Purley & Walcountians on 18 November because of a dislocated shoulder sustained in their 5-2 first-round win over Tulse Hill and Dulwich.

However, he insists the loss of his services will not affect Guernsey's bid to reach the last 16, as they look to go one better than last year's defeat to Gateshead in the final.

'They are compact and are strong everywhere so, at their place, it will be a tough game.'
