PLANS that would have seen the island's oldest bowling club – the GBC – move to the Corbet Field have been put on hold.

Meanwhile, Guernsey's world champion bowler Alison Merrien has admitted that she would dearly love to see a brand new, two-rink international-sized green at Hougue du Pommier and has confessed to closely eyeing the situation at the Guernsey Bowling Club.

The dwindling GBC membership met over the weekend to discuss, among other things, a long-mooted switch to the home of Vale Rec and take up occupancy of a projected new green on the former all-weather rink. But it won't happen any time soon.

Paul Sargeant, pictured, who has stepped down as GBC president after 15 years, confirmed that talks had been held with Vale Rec officials. However, as there was no funding to cover the move and Culture and Leisure had no wish for the GBC to depart Beau Sejour or, as has been rumoured, replace the green with additional parking, the island's oldest club was staying put.
