INJURED GFC star Ryan-Zico Black took one – and only one – look at his badly damaged leg, such was the awfulness of his double break, he revealed yesterday.

Speaking from his bed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, where he had a metal rod inserted into his right leg on Monday, he said: 'I looked down and didn't want to look again. It was a bit of a shock.'

Black expects to fly back to the island today – if he passes muster on crutches.

'It is still throbbing at the minute. I'm coming off the medication a bit.

'I'm feeling a bit more comfortable now but I've felt sick the last couple of days.'

The player, who had to wait in recovery for five hours because there was no bed for him, also endured a long wait to leave the pitch at Erith, and he paid his own tribute to Green Lions physio Mike Thomas.
