MANCHESTER, as you might expect, produces hard, talented boxers.

Too many of them were on show at the opening Dinner Boxing Club show of the season at St Pierre Park and Guernsey’s finest, augmented by three of Alderney’s best, got a pasting.

Every contest was well-matched, but Steve Walshaw’s squad won eight of the 10 bouts, including the two ‘bill toppers’, which saw both Tom Duff and James Woolnough outpointed.

Middleweight Woolnough was branded by MC Liam McKenna as ‘the hands of the stone’.
