THERE has been strong online criticism of the Combined Counties League after the recent announcement of Guernsey FC’s rearranged spring fixture list.

The Green Lions will now face 18 games in 57 days through March and April to complete their Premier Division season.

Because of the reluctance of some clubs to travel to the island in midweek, most of those will now be played on a Friday evening or Sunday afternoon at Footes Lane.

But, despite that decision by CCL fixture secretary Alan Constable looking like the obvious solution, there has been a mixed response from club officials, on both Twitter and the Non-League website forum.

The most outspoken have been Cove, who face GFC away on Sunday 3 March, the match put back 24 hours to accommodate another match on the Friday.

Dorking are due to fly out for a Sunday game.

There will still have to be some matches re-scheduled,

We are/were due to play South Park the Saturday before the Sunday match, and with the best will in the world.......

Unfortunately for Dorking (and indeed every other club in the CCL) the whole thing is now being run for the convenience of GFC, because of the associated travel issues.

I'm afraid that once the league accepted them into the fold they were left with little alternative but to give them special treatment, something that is now coming home to roost big style.

This will continue to be the case with every league that GFC may find themselves in, postponed matches are inevitable due to a) not being prepared to take the risk (i.e. cost) of travelling, and therefore calling games off early, and b) the pitch not being fit for purpose.

I have every sympathy with you, however don't expect much from most of the numpties on here who seem to believe that GFC is the vehicle for solving all of the world's ills!!
