'HANDS of Stone' James Woolnough heads off to the Western Counties Championships with his confidence boosted by a return to winning form.

Woolnough's points win over Ed Bradbury at St Pierre Park on Friday night was one of the few crumbs of comfort for the home camp who were on the end of a thumping from the visiting Welsh Select.

The Welsh won eight of the 10 bouts and some of the Bailiwick's most reliable and impressive

performers were found slightly wanting in the face of skilled visitors.

But Woolnough, at least, held firm.

In the penultimate contest the middleweight favourite forced a standing count for the Welshman in the second and in a close final round did just enough to gain the verdict.
