THERE were thrills and near-spills in the first two races of the 2013 Marine and General Engineers Spring Weekend Series.

Race one was held in perfect conditions that saw 10 yachts jostling for position on the start line in class one and with a clean start the yachts headed off to the first race mark at Brehon Tower with the wind from the north east.

The first yacht around Brehon was Map Cap (Grant & Jamie Hamilton) followed by White Rabbit (Simon Henning) and Blue J'ade (Aden Clark).

Class two started five minutes after class one and also had Brehon as the first race mark. Six boats beat up to the first mark and it was Aztec Gold (Clive Le Tissier) that took the lead, which they maintained to take line honours.
