ROSS ALLEN'S wonder goal saw Guernsey's 'immense group of players' retain the Muratti Vase for the first time in 21 years with a 2-1 victory over Jersey at the Track on Saturday.

It was also Guernsey's first home win since 2001 and was achieved thanks to Craig Young's early opener and Allen's individual strike just before half-time, a goal that Greens' coach Kevin Graham was in awe of.

'I am just racking my brains to think of a better Muratti goal but, to be honest, I can't think of one that gets close to Ross',' he said.

'Today was a funny game of football really because we were by far the better footballing side before half-time and were excellent.

'But after the break, Jersey put in one heck of a shift and full credit to them because they fought their way back and perhaps I overestimated how much petrol some of my lads had left in the tank.'
