BEKI LE CHEMINANT came back from the brink yesterday to book a place in the Intertrust Island Women's golf Championship quarter-finals.

The home player found herself three down with three to play at La Grande Mare as Stephanie Ballay looked set to continue her remarkable run in the championships.

The youngster from Royal Guernsey won the bronze division title at the first time of asking 12 months ago and looked as if she would begin her silver division career with a notable scalp.

Ballay had been one ahead at the turn and extended that lead on the 12th, before Le Cheminant claimed one back on 13 only to give it straight back with a miscue off the 14th tee and a second shot into the trees.
