GEOFF GIBSON romped to stage three Tour of Guernsey glory and held onto the blue jersey in the process.

With the island's elite mountain bikers in Island Games action, this week is a chance for others to shine in the seven-stage tour and this time, it was a criterium race at Bordeaux.

But any hopes of a close battle in the elite class were dashed from the moment that Gibson took an early lead and rather than just hold it, rammed his foot down to clinch glory.

After early pressure from Gary Robert in the 25 minutes plus one lap format, he continually opened the gap and by the time he crossed the finishing line for the last time, he was more than 30 seconds clear of chasers Ben Walden and Leon Ogier.

It meant he held onto the same blue jersey for the top points scorer in his class and he was pleased with how his evening's work went.
