THEY knew they had to produce something special and Guernsey's freestyle quartet delivered in sensational style.

Up against formidable opposition from a Cayman Islands team including the Olympian brothers, Shaune and Brett Fraser, as well as a more than handy unit from Jersey, the Sarnians rose to the challenge magnificently to claim gold and smash the Games record in the process.

Led out by Jeremy Osborne in the 4x50m event, Ben Lowndes and Tom Hollingsworth followed him in the water before young Miles Munro brought the team home in 1min. 31.34sec., almost a full two seconds quicker than the previous record set by the Guernsey quartet circa Aland 2009.

The Cayman Islands team also went under that 2009 standard, but it was not enough to take top spot on the podium.
