IT WAS a day to remember for one young Guernseyman in the beautiful setting of the outdoor pool at the Bermuda National Sports Centre yesterday.

Miles Munro, still only 17, pictured, became the first Channel Islander to break the 50sec. barrier in the blue riband 100m freestyle and for good measure, he did it twice.

To top it off, he then produced an astonishing final leg in the 4x100m medley relay to claw back almost three seconds on the leaders to win a brilliant gold for the rampant Guernsey men's relay team.

Many would use the word magnificent to describe the teenager, but modest would be just as appropriate.
