IT WAS a much-improved performance, but Dom McLuskey could not prevent Billy Harris from claiming men's singles gold yesterday morning at the W. E. R. Joell Stadium in Bermuda.

After his three-set win over Jersey's James Connelly in the semi-final, the Sarnian admitted that he would have to play 'a thousand times better' to test the imposing teenager from the Isle of Man.

In those terms, McLuskey was probably hundreds of times better, but it would have taken a truly exceptional performance to beat the impressive Manxman.

Crucially, McLuskey served very well, which really made it a good match, but he never looked capable of breaking Harris, a big server in his own right.
