THERE could be a Guernsey v. Jersey battle for glory in the streets of St Peter Port on Sunday in the inaugural IAG Grand Prix.

Sarnian star Tobyn Horton is already confirmed for the elite race of the £1,000 first prize British Cycling town criterium and looks odds-on to be joined by his Team UK Youth teammate Greg Mansell from Jersey.

Horton beat Mansell to gold in the NatWest Island Games criterium in Bermuda earlier in the summer.

The entry list is still being finalised for Sunday's race, which is over a 950m course that includes racing along the High Street, the Pollet and the seafront.

However, event organiser Paul Brehaut is glad things are now taking shape and remains hopeful that it will be a strong field on the start line, for the 50min.-plus-two-laps showdown.

'Team UK Youth are planning to bring over five riders, which includes Tobyn and quite probably Greg Mansell as well, which adds another angle to the excitement,' he said.

Sunday's timetable

9.30am: Reception and Year 1. 9.40am: Year 2 and Year 3. 9.50am: Under-10s. 10.05am: Under-12s and under-14s. 10.25am: Local seniors. 3pm: Under-16s, juniors and women. 4pm: ELITE RACE.
