CHRIS KING has long been a dependable performer for Bels but last night he also took on the unfamiliar role of goal scorer.

The fullback, who is in possession of the captain's armband in the absence of Rhys Gower, Joby Bourgaize, Simon Marley and Craig Young, struck twice in the second half at the Corbet Field last night to earn his team a place in the Stranger Cup.

His first goal, Bels' second of the evening, was a cross-cum-shot from the left-hand side that sailed over goalkeeper Dane Mullen and into the far corner of the net in the 65th minute to give the visitors the lead for the first time.

He rounded things off from the penalty spot with four minutes remaining after Luke Winch was adjudged to have been fouled in the box at the end of a quick break.

The decision enraged Vale Rec coach Carl Le Tissier enough for him to make his feelings known to referee Ross de Carteret in such a way, albeit without foul language, that saw him banished to the stands by the official.

Earlier, Dave Cusack had given Rec the lead on 6min., but it lasted just four minutes before Dave Martin equalised.
