THE British numbers two and three will face-off for a place in the women's singles semi-finals at the Aegon GB Pro-Series Barnstaple event this afternoon – having already joined forces to reach the doubles semi-finals.

Heather Watson surrendered several match points when serving at 5-3 in the second set of her second-round singles match against world No. 202 Ana Vrljic yesterday and was taken to a deciding set, but the Guernsey star stepped up her game in the third to come through 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 against the Croatian.

She will now face her Great Britain Fed Cup teammate Johanna Konta, who recently overtook Watson in the world rankings to claim the British No. 2 spot, in the quarter-finals. Konta beat another Briton, Tara Moore, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round.

Last evening, Watson and Konta were in action again on the same side of the net as they came from behind to beat third seeds Vrljic and Kristina Barrois in the doubles quarter-finals.

The Croatian-German combination took the first set 6-3 and were within a game of victory in the second, but the British pairing fought hard and took the set on a tiebreak 7-6 (5).

The third set was played as a championship tiebreak, which the home pair edged 11-9 to progress into the semi-finals.
