THE boxing year for Bradley Watson has ended prematurely after he picked up an injury that will rule him out until the start of 2014.

Watson, the island's only professional boxer, has seven straight wins to his name and was due to fight at the Savoy Hotel in London on 21 November.

However, the chance to extend the perfect start to his career will have to wait for the 23-year-old super-flyweight, who has been ordered to rest after being sidelined with costrochondritis – an inflammation of the costal cartilage, which connects each rib to the sternum.

Yet Watson is not as despondent as he may have been, believing the timing of the injury is not as bad as many would think.

'I have had it for some time now and fought through it in my last fight back in September, which hurt lots,' he said.

'The doctor told me to rest it, which I ignored at the time and carried on training, but I had a recurrence a few days ago in training.
