Merstham 3, Guernsey FC 3

Published

Ross Allen's brilliant free-kick saw Guernsey FC come from behind to grab another crucial Ryman South point in a thriller at the Moatside Stadium.

The hosts had taken a 2-0 first half lead as they outplayed the Green Lions early on, but Allen's penalty meant the deficit was halved going into half-time.

Merstham regained their two-goal lead with a close range strike, before Dom Heaume got GFC back into it again with a decent finish at the back post.

And as time ticked by, Allen curled in a quite stunning 20-yard effort off the post, which left the goalkeeper motionless and set up the chance of a remarkable turnaround win.

However, GFC. had to eventually settle for a draw that sees them drop to sixth in the table, but with games in hand on all of the sides above them.

They next play on Wednesday, when they travel to big promotion rivals Leatherhead, one of those aforementioned games in hand.
