Scrum down: Guernsey and Barking packs

TOM CEILLAM scored a first-half hat-trick as Guernsey eased fears of being dragged into a relegation battle with a convincing victory on Saturday.

The young hooker was outstanding as the home side stamped their authority on the National Three London & South-East bottom side Barking.

It was not a faultless performance. Far from it. But it was the type of display that showed the potential this Guernsey side has if they get everyone fit and firing.

‘Things that haven’t worked for us lately did work today and that’s probably down to a lot of hard work,’ said head coach Jordan Reynolds.

‘Defensively, we did still have some lapses. But importantly we started the game well, ended the first half well and then came out [and] did the same in the second half.

‘There were periods in the middle of either half that were not as good, but momentum is going to change during a game.’
