A NEW name will appear on the Guernsey Sports Commission Trophy next month.

Four of the island's elite have been nominated by their sports or members of the public as the outstanding performer of the year for 2013, the top prize in the GSC Sporting Achievement Awards.

In alphabetical order, the contenders are top windsurfer James Briggs, successful cyclist Tobyn Horton, champion golfer Aimee Ponte and squash professional Chris Simpson.

One of that impressive quartet will join Andy Priaulx, Alison Merrien, Lee Merrien and current holder Heather Watson as a winner of the GSC Trophy, which was founded in 2004, at the 2013 presentations evening to be held on Thursday 16 January.
