Guernsey FC face crucial match in Ramsgate

TONY VANCE is readying his Guernsey FC team for the start of a Ryman South fixture schedule he believes is like any other in his side's brief history thus far.

A strong Green Lions squad travel to play-off rivals Ramsgate tonight for the first of a run of five away games in six. The club's top-five ambitions were significantly enhanced by their weekend win, but this run of away matches could go a long way to realising them – or not.

Revenge is also firmly on GFC's agenda after a humiliating 4-0 home defeat to Ramsgate back in August, when all four goals were scored in a disastrous first half for manager Vance's men.

To achieve that, he is able to call upon a squad noticeably strong for a midweek fixture, including Dave Rihoy, Glyn Dyer, Sam Cochrane and possibly Ryan-Zico Black, all of who have seen work commitments hindering their travelling in recent weeks.

Matt Loaring and Chris Tardif are the most significant unavailabilities, while Kieran Mahon misses the match through injury, but there are returns from the treatment table for Tom Martin and Tom de la Mare.

Vance admits it is a massive match – and next few weeks – for his side.

'This is the hardest run of fixtures we have ever had, barring the ridiculous 20 games in 35 days that we had to finish off last season,' he said.

'It will test us to our limits and I am delighted to be able to name such a strong squad for a big fixture because Ramsgate are right on our heels for a play-off spot, in a good run of form and played some good football when they beat us at home.'
