Tough task facing Watson and Team GB

HEATHER WATSON will hope to cause a major upset as Great Britain return to Fed Cup action this week in Hungary.

After the exploits of Britain's men over the weekend in reaching the Davis Cup quarter-finals, it is now the women's turn in their equivalent team event.

But with British number one Laura Robson out injured and Watson's world ranking having plummeted to 162 – her lowest since January 2011 – it will be a tough ask in Europe/Africa Zone Group One.

Only one team will qualify from the initial four-team group stage that gets under way tomorrow and with Team GB being drawn in pool B with Romania, the odds of progression look steep.

Whereas British number two Johanna Konta and number three Watson are both ranked well outside the world's top 100, Romania possesses two elite players.

Before facing Romania on Friday, Team GB start their campaign against Latvia tomorrow and complete the group stage against the hosts Hungary on Saturday.
