Winch returns to GFC squad for trip to Hythe Town

GUERNSEY FC are now 'underdogs' to finish in a Ryman South play-off spot, as a beleaguered squad battles to keep their season on track tonight.

The Green Lions travel to Hythe Town for the first of four successive away games, knowing that three defeats in four have left their top-five hopes hanging by a thread.

With manager Tony Vance yesterday desperately scrambling to name a travelling squad, his list of unavailabilities nearly makes a strong XI in itself.

He has confirmed that Jamie Dodd and Dom Heaume are both almost certainly out for the season, as is Glyn Dyer, with all three now huge doubts for the Muratti in Jersey.

Nigel Hutton, Kieran Mahon, Alex Le Prevost and Tom Strawbridge also remain sidelined, while Chris Tardif, Sam Cochrane and Dave Rihoy are all unavailable.

'If teams win their games in hand, we will be in fifth place and in the last play-off spot, but we are underdogs to finish there now with the form of the sides below, especially Merstham,' said Vance.

When the two sides met earlier in the campaign, GFC thrashed mid-table Hythe 5-1 with an excellent attacking display that included a Ross Allen hat-trick.

He will again lead the line tonight and is rejoined in the squad by the returning Marc McGrath, while Luke Winch is also included for the first time this season.

GFC's match is one of eight being played tonight among a total of 13 this midweek that sees all of the sides around them also in action at least once.

Tonight's match kicks off at 7.45pm.
