THE Cornish Pirates have arrived in the island for their pre-season training camp that will culminate in a match with Guernsey RFC at Footes Lane on Saturday evening.

Shortly after landing here yesterday afternoon, the Pirates were involved with their first combined training session with the GRFC first-team squad and that was only the first item on their hectic five-day schedule.

The Greene King IPA Championship club will intersperse their own training sessions with coaching children and other clubs such as St Jacques and the Guernsey Ladies. There will also be a coach education session as well as community interaction events including a question-and-answer evening tonight and a public meet-and-greet in Market Square tomorrow lunchtime.

'It's us paying back some of the stuff Guernsey have put on for us and we will help out as much as we can,' said Cornish Pirates director of rugby Ian Davies this afternoon.

Saturday's match between Guernsey and the Cornish Pirates kicks off at 6.30pm at Footes Lane.
