THE inaugural Bordeaux Sprint has been hailed a great success and plans are already in place to make it an annual event.

Over 80 competitors took part – with the only notable absentees being those riding bikes over 600cc who were excluded by ACU rules – with plenty of fast times being clocked.

Ian Le Page, the GMC&CC president, was delighted with how the day had gone and admitted that some of the performances across the board were exceptional.

'Before the event, I know that people were chatting and speculating about what kind of times there would be and the speeds. But the truth is no-one really knew exactly what to expect,' he said.

Although confirmation will still be needed before it can be written on the 2015 calendar, Le Page says that the omens are good for a repeat.

'We said beforehand that we would see what the feedback was like before deciding whether to make it an annual event and after the way it went, we are definitely looking to put it in every year, probably on the same weekend,' he added.
