Nightingale, 15, gets his chance with senior island squad

FIFTEEN-year-old batsman Tom Nightingale is among the 17 players spread over two 12-man squads named for the upcoming National squad fixtures against Northern Universities and the Sussex Academy in the UK.

There is also a place for UK school-based fast bowler Will Fazakerley.

Jason Martin is in line to keep wicket on the trip north to Newcastle next week, while Tom Kimber takes the gloves for the two games against the Sussex Academy the following week.

All four games are being used in preparation for the inter-insular in Jersey on 6 September.

Ollie Nightingale celebrated his national team call-up for the forthcoming Sussex Academy games with an undefeated 47 for club side 2mi Wanderers last night.

With Nick Waldron for company, they rushed Wanderers to a 10-wicket win over a poor Optimists side in the preliminary round of the Division One Cup at KGV.

Waldron, who struck eight fours to Nightingale's six, finished unbeaten on 51.

Squad v. Northern Universities (18-21 Aug): Nussbaumer (capt.), Martin, Hooper, Barker, T. Nightingale, Fazakerley, A. Martel, J. Martel, Stokes, Frith, Le Tissier, Newey.

Squad v. Sussex and Oxfordshire Academies (23-25 Aug): Nussbaumer (capt.), Kimber, Hooper, Barker, T. Nightingale, Ellis, Ferbrache, Peatfield, Stokes, Frith, O. Nightingale, Newey.
