Allen's gold-laden plan is revealed

WINNING an Island Games gold medal next summer was the primary reason behind Ross Allen's delayed start to this Guernsey FC campaign.

Allen came off the bench in Tuesday night's victory over Walton Casuals for his first appearance of the season, just a week after returning to training.

He started his build-up a full two months after the rest of his Green Lions colleagues and, as a result, accepts that he may not be fit to start games until the middle of September.

But he is pleased to be back involved and explained that after five years of virtually non-stop football, it was time to give his body a prolonged break.

'I just needed a break to be honest because we have had an intense few years with a lot of games and I think the body was a bit worn down,' explained Allen.

'The Island Games was a massive thing in that decision and I was thinking about it a lot because I am desperate to help win a gold medal over there. It is the one thing that is missing from everyone's trophy collection,' he added.
