A large crowd were thrilled by the tennis standard and some tense matches, the West-Ogier clash the undoubted highlight.

Although the top seed Ogier raced to an early lead, winning the first set 6-2, West changed tactics to play a more aggressive serve volley game in the second set to level the match by winning the set 6-3.

The deciding championship tie break swung dramatically between the two players, but in the end a stunning stretch volley by West snatched the final point to win the tie-break 14-12 in one of the best finals seen for years.

The women's singles event was played in a round robin format and overall winner was Jo Dyer, who was undefeated in retaining the title from talented junior Lauren Barker, who was runner-up.
