Injury 'curse' strikes again

THE Guernsey Rugby Club injury jinx has struck again.

Published

Just a couple of weeks after believing he could see light at the end of the tunnel, Jordan Reynolds admitted yesterday that it had proved to be a false dawn and he is preparing to travel to Westcliff in National Three London & South-East tomorrow without Jason Batiste, Robin Le Cocq, Darrin Bellingham and Shane Taylor on top of longer-term absentees Malcolm Barnes, Nick Barton, Greg Smith and Jim Regnard.

'We have definitely got a curse on us,' said the new GRFC director of rugby, who was unable even to name a match-day squad yesterday as he surveyed the damage.

'The difference compared to previous weeks, when we had injuries hitting one particular area like our backline, is that it is a lot more spread out throughout the team, which in all honesty I prefer if it has to happen.'

Bellingham could be out until the new year with a herniated disc, while Le Cocq suffered a foot injury while working on his family farm and Batiste picked up a head injury in last week's narrow defeat to Bury St Edmunds.

Meanwhile, Layton Batiste, Simon Sharrott, Luke Sayer and Jim Elliott are also unavailable.
