Smith explains the reasons behind quitting as Bels coach

GLYN SMITH felt he had no choice but to resign as Bels coach because of the risk that his integrity would be questioned on Facebook.

Smith surprised local football over the weekend by leaving the reigning Priaulx League champions over 'offensive public criticism over Facebook', bringing to an end a successful reign.

Although he will not divulge exactly what the 'irresponsible' online content was, the man who won back-to-back titles for the first time in Bels' history explained his reasons.

'Like a lot of people, I have three lives and those are my family life, my business life and my footballing life,' said Smith.

'My family life comes first and then after that my business life, so I can't put myself into a position where I risk having my integrity and reputation called into question on Facebook.

'I am in a business where relationships and trust, as well as friendships, are vitally important and I can't have anything jeopardising that.

'I hold no grudges over it, though, and I wish Bels and all of the players well in the future because it is a fantastic club and will be a great job for somebody to take on.'
