Ceillam needing surgery as problems pile up

TOM CEILLAM'S broken eye socket will keep him away from Guernsey's relegation battle for the coming weeks.

The hooker's injury adds to Guernsey's woes, but coach Jordan Reynolds saw some positives in the 14-21 loss to CS Rugby 1863, a result which leaves them five points adrift at the bottom.

'There was some good stuff there and we only have ourselves to blame,' said the coach.

'The kind of feeling afterwards is that we did enough to win the game.

'We played far better than we did against London Irish, but we are lacking in confidence.'

Ceillam got through the whole game and it wasn't until Sunday night that the extent of his facial injury became clear.

'He will have to fly off to Southampton and have a plate in his cheekbone fitted.

'It's unfortunate as Tom is one of our best forwards. We hope his eye will be OK.'

Guernsey have a free weekend before the game against fellow strugglers Tring on Saturday week.
