Ninth title for Le Tocq – first for young Le Tissier

HE HAS targeted double figures in men's singles titles and now, Paul Le Tocq is just one away from realising his dream after being crowned island champion yet again at the Rohais last night.

A win over Stuart Hardy in the final was the start of another perfect finals night for Le Tocq, who would then go on to add the men's doubles and mixed doubles crown.

But he was made to work hard by Hardy, who was appearing in his first final, before eventually prevailing in a lengthy three- setter.

Ultimately, Le Tocq's success was slightly more comfortable than the 21-15, 18-21, 21-15 scoreline suggests.

Make no mistake he was always in total control of the first and third sets.

Credit to Hardy, though, who levelled it and set up a decider that some wouldn't have seen coming, perhaps including himself, as he admitted afterwards.

'I have had a really good week in reaching the final and while I obviously wanted to win it, my first aim was to make sure it wasn't too one-sided,' he said.

There was a new female singles champion joining him in the presentation room afterwards as Chloe Le Tissier won her first title at the age of just 16.

She was playing exceptionally well against Bridget Podger, winning the first set 21-11 and battling away in a close second, when the experienced Podger's knee gave way attempting a return.

It meant an unfortunate retirement and the title for Le Tissier, who made the most of Elena Johnson's absence from the event.
