Alderney duo show their class to repel the Welsh

IT'S become custom for James 'Wooly' Woolnough to bring local shows to a crescendo in a flurry of non-stop aggression.

It was no different as he put the seal on a fine 7-3 win for Guernsey against a Wales Select at St Pierre Park, but as showstopping performances go, there was nothing to better the performance of the two Alderney boys who have bolstered the local ranks these past a few seasons and developed into boxers of high class.

Billy Le Poullain's development has been wonderful to witness and he did not disappoint at the first of their winter dinner shows, but somewhat under the radar fellow welterweight Chris Sumner has been catching the eye also.

Sumner scooped the bout of the night award jointly judged by guests Andy Priaulx MBE and Bucktrouts' Dave Robilliard, and it was a good decision.
