But at the KGV Jon Bell's men were doing all the roaring and with a superb all-round team performance romped to the top of the Hampshire Merit Solent League.

The clash of the division's two unbeaten sides promised to be a cracker but the only fireworks came from the home side who weathered a strong start by the visitors to run in six tries, five of them converted by their consistent kicker and hooker, Tom Chamberlain.

There is so much to admire about the black-and-yellows whose resurgence as a club comes with a capital R.

Their transformation in two years is nothing short of remarkable and their influx of new talent, some from overseas, others like Piers Ockleford, Airy Cleere and Robbie Titterington, simply fancying a change of sport, has paid dividends.
