Now 75, the local veteran again raced across a number of iconic UK tracks during this year and achieved some strong results, mixed with some indifferent ones.

But after admitting that his enthusiasm has waned recently, it could be that after a successful career that has also seen him race across Europe, has drawn to a close.

'2014 was very subdued as I seem to lose the enthusiasm that comes when the season's list of events are made known,' said Lowe.

'Now that the season is complete and a few weeks afterwards, the car is still in the back of the wagon while I ponder what to do, but this quiet season may well have been my last.

'I've had a great time, winning 13 championships and 315 trophies along the way, having raced at Monza, Spa, Zandvoort, Dijon, Croix-en Ternois, Le Mans, Zolder and most of the English tracks.'
