Worthing worthy of win

TONY VANCE admitted that Guernsey FC scored '89 minutes too early' last night as they suffered a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Ryman South rivals Worthing.

The Green Lions got off to the perfect start when Craig Young scored after just 15 seconds at the in-form 'Rebels', but sat back deeper as a result and although they held out until the hour mark, conceded four quick goals.

Matt Loaring and Dom Heaume got late goals to give GFC a glimmer of hope, but it was ultimately in vain as GFC remain 17th in the table and six points above the relegation zone, ahead of another away trip to Sittingbourne on Saturday.

Vance accepted that Worthing were fully deserving of the win and that the early goal may have actually counted against his team.

'The scoreline did flatter us, our tactics today were to come here, shut up shop and try to hit them on the counter attack,' he said.

'But when we got the goal, although it was a great start, it was probably too early because we sat deeper and deeper, so in the end, all it needed was a lucky break, a nice bounce or a quality strike to break us down.'

GFC also suffered another injury blow as Kieran Mahon dislocated his shoulder in the first half.
