GFC's play-off hopes hang on next three weeks

TONY VANCE admits that the next four games are key for his Guernsey FC side as they chase an ever more realistic Ryman South play-off spot.

After the Green Lions did their bit in their 3-0 win at Walton & Hersham thanks to goals from Tom de la Mare, Dave Rihoy and Marc McGrath, they could sit back and relax as other results in the 3pm kick-offs went their way.

Worthing defeated Hastings United 2-0 to consolidate fifth spot. They remain nine points ahead of GFC.

But the other three teams seriously in the reckoning all dropped points.

In terms of the number of points dropped all season, South Park are still favourites for fifth, but suffered their second defeat in four days with a 4-0 home reverse to Faversham Town.

GFC have now overtaken them and lead by a point, although South Park still have four games in hand.

The sides will meet a fortnight tomorrow.

In another pleasing result, Whitstable Town and Whyteleafe shared the spoils with a 2-2 draw that has left them vulnerable as GFC's run of form continues.

'I told the lads before kick-off that, including this game, we had five key upcoming fixtures that will really shape our season,' said Guernsey FC manager Vance.

'Four of those are away, including three in a week and going to both South Park and Burgess Hill, so if we can come out of those five in a positive situation, we are in a good position to push towards that top-five.'
