GRAVESEND relished the challenge of visiting Footes Lane on a bleak winter's afternoon and they got the rewards they deserved on Saturday.

The home fans in another good Garenne Stand crowd sensed that Guernsey were about to move up through the gears when, after turning around 12-3 down at half-time, they reduced the arrears to just two points within the opening 90 seconds of the second half, but it proved a false dawn.

The hosts were not to score again and although their director of rugby certainly had a case when he said decisions had not gone their way, he was not about to blame the officials for his side's display.

'We did not even look like playing any rugby in the first half,' said Jordan Reynolds, whose mood matched the miserable weather.

'I don't know what's wrong with the team at the moment. Defensively today, we played poorly and if you are going to look for any positives, you are just going to be scratching around.'
