SIX months after departing the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on a career low, Tom Druce is back in athletics as Guernsey's new development officer.

Druce, 28, becomes the third GIAAC 'ADO' in little more than three years, but having retired from competition he is raring to go in a new role he describes as 'exciting and challenging'.

Druce, who along with Dale Garland and Lee Merrien, formed a three-pronged spearhead to arguably the island's most successful sport of the 'Noughties', hopes to start the job at the end of next month once he and his young family have completed their move from the UK.

'It is good to know that the club wanted me and hopefully it will all work out really well,' said the island's fastest-ever sprinter over 100, 200 and 400m.

A multiple Island Games gold medal winner, Druce said he never realised how much he would miss the sport in just six months.

'I'm really excited about it and we are already in a good place with regards numbers and participation.'
