On a bitterly cold night and on a heavy and bumpy Blanche Pierre Lane pitch, it was never the performance that mattered for Richard Pinchemain's men, just the result.
To that end, it was a perfect night for the side who face a game against leaders North in 10 days' time that they quite simply cannot afford to lose.
But the final outcome here was mightily harsh on a St Martin's side who were in the game for long spells, but such is their trademark of late, they could not turn promise into anything more substantial.
Joby Bourgaize scored the other Bels goal.
