THEY left it late, but Nick Rumens' stunning strike kept Vale Rec firmly in the Priaulx League title mix at a wintry Corbet Field last night.

Beating the weather and allowing the match simply to be played had surprised many in the build-up, but the surface held up excellently and did little to hinder the game.

Not that it was a high-quality encounter, though, because it wasn't and it was an evening littered with mistakes all over the park in wind and swirling rain showers.

One of those gusts caught Wayne Bishop's cross in the first half to give Rangers a lead that the league table suggests was a surprise, but was fully deserved at the time.

But no sooner were they ahead and Rec had levelled it through Glenn Le Tissier.

On 84min. Rumens curled a beauty into the top corner from over 20 yards out to win it.
