Alvarez and Roland to miss vital clash

MARTYN DE GARIS admits that if his Sylvans side have serious aspirations of winning the Priaulx League this season, they must win at title favourites North tonight.

But that is something he believes is possible after his side secured back-to-back victories with a 5-2 thumping of Rovers at the weekend to stay five points off the pace.

They have a game in hand on North and a win at Northfield would see Sylvans emerge as genuine title candidates, although they will have to do so without a couple of key names.

Joe Alvarez, so influential in red-and-white since his move from North, and Greg Roland both picked up injuries in the Rovers win that rule them out, while Nick Trebert is ill, meaning that de Garis will have to shuffle his ranks.

Last time the sides met, Sylvans maintained their unbeaten home record with a 4-3 win that saw a four-goal lead eaten away at by North in the dying minutes.

De Garis knows this will be a completely different test for his side, though.

'Going to North, when they have virtually a fully-fit squad, is daunting and there is no tougher test than that right now in this league,' he said.

North v. Sylvans at Northfield kicks off at 7.30pm.
