GFC beat Horsham to rise to 10th
IT WAS unnecessarily nervy late on, but Guernsey FC's hopes of a Ryman South play-off spot remain on track after a 2-1 home win over struggling Horsham.
But in the immediate aftermath, consultant coach Steve Sharman - assistant to Colin Fallaize here at Footes Lane - admitted that the Green Lions had made it more difficult than it needed to be.
Strikes from Marc McGrath and Dave Rihoy - the opener from McGrath after just 17 seconds - gave the dominant hosts a comfortable cushion.
However, a late penalty from Tony Nwachukwu gave Horsham hope and they should have had another spot kick moments later, which was turned down.
Sharman accepted that his side got a stroke of luck in the late stages, but was pleased with GFC's overall display, particularly in the first 45 minutes.
'What happened late on often happens when a side is in total control in the first half and should be 3-0 or 4-0 up by half-time, but only has the one goal to show for those efforts,' he said.
