ST JACQUES' planned title party on the back of officially receiving the Hampshire Solent Merit League trophy tomorrow will come with £2,000 of wasted costs after Sandown and Shanklin Hurricanes pulled out of the game at late notice.

Saints, who have won every league game of their maiden season on the UK pyramid, are furious that having paid more than £2,000 in flights, the embarrassed side from the Isle of Wight only conceded defeat in the battle to raise a XV on Wednesday.

'It's fair to say we are very angry about this and it will cost us over £2k in flights, as well as a huge amount of preparation that had gone into this week also,' said the club's head of PR, James Mroch, also a player.

Club chairman Stef Bampton echoed Mroch's thoughts.

'After a successful season of hosting Hampshire sides at the KGV, St Jacques are extremely disappointed that Sandown and Shanklin could not raise a team and have cancelled the fixture at this late stage.'
