An individual gold medallist when his home island hosted the Games in 2003, Yates has competed in all nine Games that have featured his sport since 1993 and won eight medals in that time across both compound and recurve disciplines.

In addition to competing, the Bowman of Guernsey president has also been on the technical committee at all the Games he has been to and has championed archery in Guernsey for over 20 years.

Yates was selected as flag bearer at a Guernsey Island Games Association council meeting this week when it was also decided that young triathlete Max Thornton will be Sarnian water carrier at the opening ceremony.
